The Guitar: The Instrument

[Concert Guitar] The guitar has different parts: Beside the six strings there is the body, the fretboard with the frets. The strings will be tuned with the tuners. The fretboard ends on the body at the hole and under the hole the strings are fastened at the bridge. For a clean play the width of the fretboard is important. If the fretboard is too broad and if the fingers are too short, then you hear unwanted background noises when playing the chords. Likewise a too narrow fretboard can make the finger sets for some difficult chords impossible (e.g. A major and Barre chords) with too thick fingers. So you have to look for a suitable instrument of your personal needs. Please play your guitar only with bare fingers and do not use plektrum or others.

The guitar strings have names. The highest and the lowest are the two e-strings. The lowest, thin is the high e-string, the highest, thick is the deep e-string. From above downward the names of the guitar strings are: E A D G B E. The high e-string gets a small stating line (= E ') in the notation to mark the difference to the low e-string.
